@jaribu: Which kacomment? :)!

@McReggae et al: I will get back to you next week. I'm travelling today and need to use the car. I've been assured it will not break down katikati ya msitu! Will have it checked and repaired (if possible) on Sunday!

This discussion was on time to assist and enlightened many

i followed up the discussion and upon opening my 'saple',found so many small metalic particles including a piece of magnet. upon enquring,my mechanic said the magnet was meant to capture metal particles that may come with ATF - a sweet lie which i accepted. afew days ago,i did open again and found more particles? To the experts,what trouble/s should i prepare myself for.

transmission is okay and have not noticed any problem

@junior,

What your mechanic told you is very true. The magnet captures any metal piece that may break off from you transmission especially huge ones >5 mm. When you have too many particles in your ATF chances are that your clutches may be soon wearing off. This may portend big trouble for your transmission.

Had the car checked yesterday and this was the result:

The crossmember had an 'injury' causing the gear box console to rest on it. The mechanic was of the opinion that this is what was causing the vibration. The crossmember was straightened but this only reduced the vibration and did not stop it.
The mechanic checked the tokbox and was of the opinion that nothing was amiss. However,the way he answered when I asked him whether the converter is unlocking when brakes are applied left a lot to be desired. I will have a different guy check it out in the course of the week.
Lemmie assure all (esp. extrablessed), the engine mountings are very ok! I actually don't need to replace them anytime soon!

Misfiring ignition coil? We replaced it,and even with a new one,it was still vibrating.
Cylinder head and gasket problems? Nothing! Everything is okay in that area.

Still haven't lost hope. If the vibration can be reduced,it can be eliminated all together. I will let you know when the problem is sorted!

sasha,

I had a similar problem sometimes back,took my car to Industrial area where they diagonize the car using a computer system and they came out with the solution of checking the gear box mountains.

yes! Gear box mountains could be what is worn out in your car..

have them changed!

...if the member is injured,then you just have to give it sometime to heal and it will function normally. It must be a difficult time when it is just lying idle with no work to do...

@Sasha...If the engine timing and plugs are good,and the vibrations are experinced when stationary on N, Check your engine mountings again!!! they might be looking good but their elasticity is deteroriated. I adviced you on how to check this...move the lever from N to D while on brakes and check if the engine tilts/jerks fwd....if yes,your mountings are either loose or gone altogether.....

@Sasha,

Surely,your car/the problem cannot be that complicated. After all this advise/diagnosis and reference you must have been sorted out by now. Does anyone else experience the vibration ama it's only you....do your passengers feel that vibra??

Maybe the car has no vibration anyway.

@kafein: I believe you mean mountings and not mountains. They are okay!

@Pierce: Actually,the problem is complicated because all the obvious causes of vibration are turning out to not have a problem. All my passengers feel the vibration so its not in my head.

@Sasha - one more suggestion on diagnosis - if you can take the car where it can be jacked up and put on four wheel stands. Then simulate the problem when the weight of the car is off the wheels - that should rule out any issue with drivetrain/transmission and point you in another direction. If the car can be elevated with a hyraulic lift - then simulate the problem and have someone poke around underneath to see what might be loose or the source of vibration....bonne chance!

The problem with equality is that we desire that it be with those that have more than us rather that those that have less

@mlefu: LOL! I love cars and their grease! Don't worry, I would be sensitive to your feelings!

@Djinn: If what I'm working on now does not work I will do that! Thanks.

@kafein: Who said anything about engine mountings? The GB mountings are okay!
