i went to with draw sh 20k fron doonholm coop ATM.i inserted my card,my password then the amount. as usual the request for reciept came and pressed yes

hell the screeen went off /blank after 30sec screen lights were back but MY 20K was missing .waited for 5 min to see if luck will fall on me but NO.waited for the next person on the line to use the ATM and he with draw 1k and he got it. not to despair i waited for the next 5 guys but all what they got is their actual withdwawals. my 20 k had dissapeared.being a sunday i called card center and advised to report to my branch at haile silassie(forgive for mispelling) avenue.was tossd right center then refered to some guy upstairs who said i write a letter,i did that thereon,he said they have run the system and saw that the my card actually withdrew the cash .went again but same story

to all bankers and or anyone who has gone through same mess is there anything i can do or do i forget the story and move on. well 20k is enough to pay rent for 2 months

You have stated that the screen went off & was back after 30 secs or so. I am assuming by this that it may not have been a blockout. Most of ATMS have CCTV monitoring so you or they should be able to get that footage as proof source. In anycase when theres normally a blackout most ATMS do not return the cards as precaution its retained.

Follow this up after all its your hard earned cash

A reconciliation is normally done for every ATM on a daily basis. All transactions are captured in a journal roll and Cash remaining in the ATM should balance to this.

If the ATM didn't dispense the cash,COOP should by the following morning have reversed the transaction even without you asking. But again it all depends on their systems,processes & people.

...Man,don't let it go. Go to Coop house looking ugly and demand to see the CEO. Let them review your actions at that time in the ATM...

I have seen such cases at Co-op house branch and after registering their complaint the cash is credited back to their accounts the same day. Dont worry,its a common thing especially with co-op ATMs. Report the matter to H/Q at CO-OP House.

it recently happened to me with EB..

i withdrew 10k,got a receipt & my atm card but didnt get the cash...

waited at the atm for a while (approx. 30 mins) just incase another customer showed up but unfortunately none came...

when i reported the matter to my bank the following day... at first they claimed that i had taken the cash but later they confirmed from their cctv that the next customer did take my cash...

they told me that they would ask the lady customer to return the cash but their efforts were futile...

eventually,they credited my account with 10k and i guess they footed that expense...

if you are sure you didnt take the cash,and that you did enough to make sure that your cash did not go with the next customer,you definitely have a case and i beseech you not to give up...

me had the same problem in 2005 in consolidated bank koinange branch ATM.

it was on a friday and was withdrawing 15k.the damn machine gave me a receipt and my card and suprisingly they had debited my account with 15k.
On monday...I went there explained and was told I wait they finish the reconcillations and check CCTV camera.On tuesday..was told that they cant do anything coz there was no balance an indication I had withdrawn the money.I went to branch managers office and was of no assistant.
Wedesday,a was to travel and came back thursday nite..Friday headed to the bank...the thugs had not credited my account.I went straight to 7th floor and requested to talk to the CEO.I was told he was in a meeting and instead Operations manager came.
my friend.......I was jumping over the tables and threatened to call the media.I told them if it was a plan to con people it must come to an end.
I caused a scene the whole floor and after 30min.....money was in my account.

Did you check your balance?
Maybe the transaction never went through but if it did,they will reverse it.
Happened to me but the screen didn't go off - the ATM crashed just before spitting the cash,called my bank and they reversed it.
