-Figures published Tuesday by well known Wireless Intelligence for third quarter of 2010

-Safaricom boasts 82% share of mobile market; benefits from success of M-PESA, 3G headstart.
-By comparison, its closest rival Yu has only an 8% share of the market. Airtel is no 3 with -40% YoY growth
-Safaricom has maintained its dominance due to being the country's sole 3G operator, heavy investment in new network technologies including WiMAX and fibre, and popularity of its M-PESA
-Safaricom's greatest threat is likely to come from Bharti, already in the process of implementing its signature streamlined business model

Round 1 lost, let's await Round 2

If safaricom was a trully kenyan company, it could easily expand into east africa, even the whole of africa. Vodafone BK

Could this report have spurred some agressive demand for Safaricom yesterday?

But in all fairness, considering Airtel launched counterattack end of August, I think Airtel must be almost double no of subscribers now - placing them well second.

This is the most inaccurate report EVER! Yu in #2 position? No way! Airtel numbers have been greatly understated - should be at least thrice that...

Yu is a silent killer. It was kept is cost of operations down and is the most competitive in terms of tariffs and i have information on sale of Airtime and Yu and Airtel are almost the same indicating they are not far apart.
