Bidders
1. England
2. Russia
3. Spain/Portugal
4. Netherlands/Belgium

...Any reason why England should not win the bid?

Something tells me that Russia might pull a fast one on England and clinch the bid,

2022......The world cup goes back to USA!!!!

I think England are the overwhelming favorites to host the 2018 world cup. The decision by Vladimir Putin to snub today's vote clearly spells out what he thinks of his country's chances. England on the other hand have sent a really strong delegation of Prince William, Prime Minister and David Beckham.

As for 2022, It might go to USA although Qatar have a very impressive bid.

But why select the TWO host at one bidding?
I think was a serious failure from Blatter.

Blatter has opened the envelope and RUSSIA WILL HOST THE 2018 WORLD CUP

Ha ha ha, as much as I would have loved to hear English fans singing their hearts out during the world cup, I love the fact that they'll keep analysing the missed chance for the next 10 years, what coulda, woulda shoulda! The English - over hyped, despite an exciting league!

The 2018 bid was between England and Russia...The Spain/Portugal bid was a non-starter after the claims made last month while the Belgium/Dutch bid was just there. Russia have never hosted the Wotld cup so it will be nice to see how the pull it off.

I'm more excited with Qatar 2022, this guys have declared that they'll fit all the stadiums with state of the art air-cooling systems that will drop the temperatures. I have a feeling this will be the most expensive world cup yet.

then how would you explain this:

Full results of 2018 voting:

Round 1: England 2 votes, Netherlands/Belgium 4 votes, Spain/Portugal 7 votes and Russia 9 votes.

Round 2: Netherlands/Belgium 2 votes, Spain/Portugal 7 votes and Russia 13 votes (Russia obtain absolute majority)

England got 2 votes out of 22 in round 1. Sad

Clearly FIFA never got the memo, or there must have been some serious monkey business going on.

Or maybe FIFA wanted to maintain a legacy by having the first WC in Eastern Europe and the first WC in the Middle East.

But just how did Belgium/Holland get more votes that England?? Seems there's too much anti-English sentiments across the globe from the governing authorities or it could have been the BBC Panorama feature on FIFA and bribes that hurt their chances.

It was the first and the last time for FIFA to select two hosts for two different WCs.

Where in history of FIFA has this happened before?
Listen to BBC sports and you will why Blatter's hand was behind this heinous act of impunity.

Having the two draws being done simultaneous means that the current committee earn twice as much for selling two events. The next committee will have nothing to sell. Laughing out loudly Laughing out loudly Laughing out loudly

Russia and Qatar. Such extremes in temperatures, maybe the cold winds blowing from Siberia are what makes Russians such cold people. I hope the hosting the beautiful game will make them less racist, esp their skin heads who go hunting blacks like wildlife.

BTW, some countries had made joint bids to host the games, how does that work?! Why would they do that - to split the huge financial wherewithal required to host the games, ama why?

And it is not true the Russian 2018 mascot will be a giant Yeltsin-like whiskey-swigging toon.

Again England make the assumption that other countries are walk-overs (Non-existence) True they had a much superior technical bid as compared to the rest. However Sepp had maintained all along that her favours new frontiers, don't know why people didnt see this coming. For FIFA it's all bout who will make them most cash and we all know bout the huge cash reserves they have, so bleieve me i know they will put in a spectacle.

What kinda get missed in these events is the demands made by FIFA during this process eg Visa's out of the window (something England was hoping to re-address if they 'won')and exclusive advertising rights..well!! am actually glad Russia won it!!

The greatest danger in times of turbulence is not the turbulence; it is to act with yesterday's logic.
