New Drinking rules

I am in Mombasa for a few days.
After a VERY hot morning, we decided to go to the Castle Hotel at lunch time.
While we were looking at the menu, I ordered a baridi Tusker. To my horror, I was informed that the new drinking rules dont allow them to serve any pombe before 5 pm. !!!!
I dont know if this rule applies to all the beach hotels.
If so, we are going to KILL our tourist market, just when it has started to recover.
Why are we doing this. Anyone know ?
Thanks.

Thanks. Tourism cannot die coz pombe is not being sold during the day, let people look for other things to do. Too bad for those who think they must drink. With all due respect, its not a matter of life and death.

A good number of Kenyans have a bad habit of drinking beer even in the morning. Those beer rules are good.No more beer breakfast. They should have been effected long time ago.Only alcoholics(who need treatment) drink beer early. Those laws can't kill tourism.Where those tourists come from(if from the west) such rules apply.Only tourists from Mlolongo will be affected.

Hi Guys,
I can understand where some of you are coming from.
However, even if you are from the West, and on holiday, why cant you have a beer at lunch. Maybe the rules should say only from 12 noon to 2 pm. All the guys I know from the West have a beer or glass of wine at lunch .
And the guys who have beer breakfasts will continue in their homes.
Anyway guys, just saying I like a beer with my lunch when I am on holiday.
Peace - no offence meant to anyone
Regards

this is most definately a good thing. There were too many men getting hopeless due to beer. Women demonstrated, brought down kiosks, now it was time for gava to act. Kudos GOK. This is one good thing you've done. ....above all, to stand.

money will be poured...mliona vile eabl iliangamiza alcoh-blow? Si kibz has a lot of shares there??? The utimate goal of investing is to buy low sell high;if we re-write this core equation in psychology terms it becomes buy fear sell greed.

@ Ms Mkenya,
We are talking about toursit hotels. How many locals do you see in these places before 5 pm or for that matter even after 5. These places charge AT LEAST twice what you pay at a good local hotel. People, in general, who get hopeless due to beer dont go to these places. They would most likely go to some local cheap dens.
If the toursits want to drink, let them. It helps our economy. No ?
@ kadonye
I believe the rules are applicable no matter if it is Xmas etc.
I think I will go to Zanzibar for my Xmas, or have my friends / family at home. Probably work out cheaper.
I will find out more while I am in Mombasa and let you guys know
Drink reasonably

@ matatamingi-that name!! Unfortunately those who are unable to control themselves start high and end up using illicit brew aft they've spent everything. And some of them find it hard to stop so a law is helping restore some sanity. Tourists wont complain much. Unlike our 'Haki yetu' method, they'l just wait for 5pm or go to a supermarket and buy. So its a good thing. Once you get used to it it will not sound or feel so bad... . ....above all, to stand.

In the supermarket there is no beer? or even there we have to wait till 5?
Secondly, can I buy enough and carry it around so I can drink when I feel like? does the rule prohibit drinking in the morning or its only talking about selling?
JD on the rocks baby!

@matata i empathise with your situation. When on holiday there is nothing better than sunning yourself while sipping those umbrellad cocktails. Now i have to wait for the sun to set? Life is short. Live passionately.

Non drinkers shouldnt comment on this thread, for they know not much about the importance of booze in life. During the days of alcoblow, nairobi turned into a ghost town at night. The Nbi economy was huttling downwards....into a sleepy town. I dnt think these laws will last. Who wants all of our towns n cities to turn into "Nyeri", a town asleep by 10pm? And the laws r aimed at attaining what? To me, the country might pay a heavy economic price.... TULIA.........UFUNZWE!
