@vvs, I see you are putting your cash where your throat is..... So this will be in Windhoek? I seem to like what the clairvoyant @yass.... seems to be saying regarding KPLC. BTW I don't own any KPLC and will look to buy some on the market. I'm targeting 20-21, I think sub 19.50 might be optimistic, but if the Scon experience is anything to go buy, people are going to load up using equity loans and sell at a loss to cover the interest charges.

@GG - Whether folks borrow or beg for the cash... are you in?

If yes, let's define the parameters...

I challenge you! Right here, right now... Put up or Shut up...

So let's pick a timeframe or date... I say that KPLC will not fall to below 19/- by 30th March 2011... Is that enough time for you?

Now what do you want if you win... & I get if you lose?

[Also we should use VWAP not a single/few trade which can be manipulated]

during rights period anything is possible with kplc, remember the mother ministry(energy) is known for all kinds of shady deals. I have said here before, big player/individuals acquiring the govt rights at the basic/bargain price would not be unusual, because a 20% gain shortly after the exercise will be very normal. there are pple who trade stocks only when these kinds of situations arise, so they stake out for it.

@alikujia, Methinks the underwritting is meant to cover the shady deals in the game plan. They should have thought of the 'green shoe' instead but pple have to use the opportunity to make money.

Underwriting is insurance to guard against an undersubscription. How will this stop any sheninagans? It is however worth noting that Equity is only underwriting 50% and not the full 100%. Does that mean they are not too confident and just wish to be cautious?

It is because they are sure the rights will be at least 50% subscribed by shareholders

There is no way KPLC is going to 19/= unless some very unusual events were to occur. Such would fall under the "force majeure" realm of circumstances e.g. one of the major power installations being unable to operate for a lengthy period of time.

VVS, I wish to be enjoined on the bet - my bet being that KPLC will NOT fall to 19/= or below between now and 31st March 2011. Who is monitoring the wagers?

I am sure the Equity Bank/Centum consortium would only have been too happy to underwrite the whole issue. After all having analysed it, I am sure they are certain that it will be fully subscribed.Hence they stand to make "free" money. In any event, if it is not fully subscribed they stand to make even more by actually taking up the rights and selling them within the next 12 months.

I will be upping my stakes (Centum and EB) in these two institutions so that I can share in the windfall.

KPLC would not however countenance a 100% underwriting as it would indicate lack of confidence in the market taking up the rights. In my view, even having it underwritten 50% was a bit dumb.
