Is Chase Bank Kenya committing a serious copyright violation/"fraud"?

All,
I am sure that the global financial institution, Chase, would be interested in taking legal actions against Chase Bank Kenya based on serious copyright and trade name violations. This is compounded by the fact the two institutions are in the same industry doing the same exact business i.e banking. What happens if Chase opens a branch in Kenya (like Citibank did)? It is like starting a search engine in Kenya and calling it “Google Kenya”, or starting bottling company and calling it “Coca Cola Kenya”, without having any affiliation with the real Google or the real Coca Cola company.

Kenya Chase Bank logo is also a copy of some global logo I saw recently...

Lawyers will tell you that it's a challenge all over the world because you cannot copyright a word in the dictionary and that's why international companies avoid them. Just go to the registrar and you'll be shocked to find every company in the US has a Kenyan identical twin.

BBI will solve it :)

But if Chase Global was to come here, our dear local kiosk will have to change their name. Look at Delta for precedence.

True it will be a long battle case like the one of Group 4 Security with G4S.
Anyway maybe Chase Bank Kenya strategy was Chase Global would come and buy them off/acquire them. Remember the idiot who registered safaricom.com and kencel.com domains hoping to sell the domains and make millions back in the days?

For copyright or trade name infringement there is no way that the 'global' Chase Bank can win. For trade mark violation I would imagine it is the Kenyan Chase Bank that has the trade mark in Kenya and not the 'global' Chase Bank. Remember that trade mark is territorial.

And in that case it is Group 4 Security (a Kenyan company like Chase Bank) that won the case in the High Court as it had the Kenyan trade mark registration. The international Group 4 Securicor was forced to trade as G4S. Last I heard G4S was appealing.

How did that end? BTW the other day when I was fed up with Safaricom I wanted to register Safaricon.com to set up a website where dissatisfied users like me could lodge their complaints and stuff only to find someone has already registered it and advertising there.
