@The cotton industry, I remember my dad telling me that Eldoret Town used to have very heavy traffic in the morning from guys going to the clothes factories but after some politically connected guys started importing mitumba, all those companies withered.

The culprit was Gideon Moi.

After that he supplied KCC with enough toilet paper to last them 25 years...all supplied at once.

When the deliveries started rolling in, all the warehouses filled up.... then they converted the milk cold rooms into toilet paper storage space.... soon enough there was no money to pay farmers [since all of it had been given to Gideon!] and there was no space to keep milk [since all of it was full of toilet paper!]

Yes; KCC was killed with toilet paper!

IS THIS REALLY TRUE?

I believe KCC was killed more by nyayo milk to primary schools. Farmers would deliver milk but not get paid by KCC cauze gover was not paying for the milk it took to schools. TP story was only a small part of the story. Like krubi's daughter importing xmas gifts for uchumi to last ten yrs. Toro shuld be hanged one hair at a time.
Wisdom to detect when share prices hit rock bottom.
When interest on bonds keep going up, you know the bear run is on high street. When interest on bonds start leveling, the bear has met the bull and they have hit rock bottom. When the interest rates on bonds start coming down, the bull has overpowered the bear and you better be riding the bull.

@the sage,
I witnessed....I actually visited Raymond ltd in 1984 and it was one of the biggest employer in Kenya.Right across the road was the then Ken-knit and on the otherside of town was good ol' Rivatex,There were other vibrant industries in Eldoret those years such RV bottlers,Unga,CPC and East African Tanning.Raymond was bought by some local Indians and renamed Heritage mills while Ken-knit building were bought off by dairy firm Spin-knit....In late 80s,EA Tanning was one of the biggest exporters of mushrooms....i doubt the others are still in business.

@Guka, you are a well travelled dude, ebu nieleze the collapse of industries in Western/Nyanza provinces? Did Mo1 have do do with these too?

@Nostoppin',
Absolutely yes....Once upon a time there was a popular textile mill in Kisumu.It used to manufacture some of the finest cotton in the world...The name was KICOMI (Kisumu Cotton Mills)....and his fleet of transport lorries were the exclusive transporters of sugar from all known industries in Nyanza and Western to KNTC.......The name was GRT (Great Rift Transporters)....

Closed because Kisumu Council could not guarantee water supply.

When KBL applied to be allowed to build their own water treatment plant, the Kisumu Council denied permission. Their reasoning: If KBL builds the plant, the council will lose revenue since KBL will no longer buy water from them.

But this was at a time when Kisum did not have enough water even for residents!

Solution: close down the factory. Kisumu lost both the arrow and the bird [in my language we say; "kuruo ni mugui na kanyoni"]

This is one of the best improvements of the Kibaki and Kibaki-Raila regimes

Good People,

This guy and his cronies should have been jailed after a proper court process by April 2003. We would not have been having corruption problems that we are facing now. Can you imagine that between 1990 and 2002 there was absoultely no infrastructure development by government! That is why we are 'shocked ' to see Mombasa Road added a lane in was it four Months? We are still amazed by Thika Rd expansion. These things should have been done around 1992 to 1997. Then the freeways would have been done by 2002. Kibaki should have been builidng by passes for cities like Kericho and Eldoret, Meru and Isiolo.

These goons waliturudisha nyuma tu sana..... ABK!
