Very few people support Gor Mahia because of their football, lets not pretend tribalism doesn't play a role with regards to their fan base.
Btw I've always been a Mathare United fan.

Let them get two more penalties in their two remaining matches but Ulinzi will still run away with the title. Let no one expect Ulinzi to lose against a fellow disciplined forces' side, Red Berets. That, unfortunately, is the nature of amateur soccer. IF YOU EXPECT ME TO POST ANYTHING POSITIVE ABOUT ASENO, YOU MAY AS WELL SIT ON A PIN

Who has the link to the 31 OCT 2010 Standard newspaper article where Michael Joseph and the in-coming Bob Collymore are wearing the Gor Mahia t-shirt? Will safaricom sponsor this team? The green colour and fanatical following of the team will surely work for safaricom.....zain will them choose a team to sponsor..

Safaricom are the sponsors of the Kenya Sevens tournament, that might be more than they can give at the moment. Just like AFC, Gor is a community based club.

Ulinzi need a win and a draw in any of the two remaining matches and gor mahia will extend their trophyless period to 16 yyears. African parents don't know how to say sorry.. the closest you will get to a sorry is a 'have you eaten'

Apple Bees & Nostoppingthis......All the KPL clubs have players from Nyanza and thats a fact. The reason why i don't support Gor is simply because they are not the best team in the KPL. I've been watching the league for quite sometime now and Tusker & Mathare Utd have always impressed me with their football. This season Gor have been able to get "Blackberry" who has really good dribbling skills but the rest are average players.
HYPE is the only word i can use in describing Gor Mahia....sometimes i compare them to Liverpool, they have the noisiest fans but when is the last time they won the League?

With the young squad that Gor Mahia has, I am more than impressed with their perormance this season, if all the teams had the kind of supporters that Gor currently enjoys, those who can travel several kilometres to support their team then that would be the beginning of doemstic football revival in this country!!!! ..."Wewe ni mtu mdogo sana....na mwenye amekuandika pia ni mtu mdogo sana!".

I like this and this is the way to go.If only we could change our perception regardless of the teams we support as long as it is a Kenyan club in the league and attend the games wherever they are,not only will we be reviving our league but we will also be creating employment to our talented youth in the country. The beginning of change starts from u as an individual so let's all take the first step and fill our stadium's with fans Kenya ni yetu sisi sote

True, all clubs have players from nyanza(yes!! @sober, even Thika united, starting from the goal keeper)Hype is what we need for football development, can you believe a gate collection fee of up to 2.5 million Kshs at the AFC game?? In thika, gate entrance charged at 300Kshs and still see the crowd that attended. Who sponsers Tusker and Mathare? they must have strong sponsorship. I have to admit, i admired the way Mathare played against Gor Mahia at Nyayo stadium (Tusker, i do not concur with you), but as @McDoba says, the team is young, but look at the achievement so far. Hata kama ni number 2 in the league, fair enough. There is more to the team than "Black Messi" (i learnt that juzi), kuna number 13, collins okoth, na usisahau Ngwa!!, Kevin Omondi...enough said. Politicans (Kabogo, Ndolo, Peter Kenneth, Raila...all seen at Gor matches) are taking an interest in soccer, and that may lead to more investment in this sport...

Nostoppingthis.......The only reason why the KPL is where it is this season is because of the sponsorship deal from Supersport, nothing to do with the politicians...The gate collection disappears the moment it reaches KFF. I think It's only Blackberry who has managed to get an endorsement deal which will earn him a performance-based bonus at the end of the season depending on the number of tickets sold by ticket masters.
Each club in the KPL currently gets more than Ksh 2.1 million per season from Supersport.A further Sh 552 million is used on other aspects of the competition such as media rights, productions costs etc. What i appreciate about Supersport is that they've tried to broadcast matches involving all KPL teams not just Gor & AFC.
I also appreciate the commitment shown by some of the Gor fans in supporting their club but if we are to see true progress we need to start analyzing why we support these clubs, is it because of the club's affiliation with our tribes or because of the talent on the pitch.

TAZ, Even Portsmouth which went down last year has supporters so it cant be that the only reason a club would have supporters is because of the talent on the pitch, if that was the case then only the club with the best talent on the pitch would bag all the supporters......there have to be reasons!!! In Kenya we have had community based clubs without those company sponsors and they have always drawn the vast of their support from the affiliated communities and these include Shabana, Gor Mahia, AFC, Bandari etc I agree the supersport sponsorship has improved KPL though it has not been helping Kogallo fans buy replica shirts, scurfs, fuel, match tickets and other sports paraphernalia....if this could be attributed then such support could have been noted in all the KPL teams!!!! ..."Wewe ni mtu mdogo sana....na mwenye amekuandika pia ni mtu mdogo sana!".

Taz that's why we say people have choices and right to choose so people just go where their hearts are. Even though the political class do not sponsor the KPL,it's their expression of interest towards the game that will shape up Kenya and do us good. Look at countries where Football thrives e.g Brazil the political class has an interest in the game and they have won big things. Imagine if the govt. had a keen interest in football then allocate money in the budget which is used to upgrade all the stadium's in the country,we would be able to host the African Cup of Nations. To me the mpig's who are attending the games are really welcome and i hope they will pass a legislation that will improve the game and shape up youth's talent in this country Kenya ni yetu sisi sote
