Also, some ophthalmologists will 'suggest' one or two additional 'good to have' procedures in the name of making the entire procedure 'safer'. Of course, who would not want error free eye surgery? Can freak the hell out of anyone considering the risks involved so you have little option but pay up for the extras. Can make the effective cost a little higher than what they advertise.

But like you, it is not something I would fancy doing. Even a 5% risk is a little too high in my view for a procedure you can comfortably live without.

I've been on glasses since 1985, converted to contacts in 1988 and have have used them since - monthly wear from Johnson&Johnson. Once went to Optica Moi Avenue to enquire about laser and they said that at my age (mid forties) they would not advise it. They also proposed that if I insisted on the laser treatment, I should consider medical tourism in the Far East

@sheep, soft (jwala) monthly wear contacts. Most comfortable as opposed to the hard ones which are plastic. Never had infections - just follow the regime 1. clean hands thoroughly, 2. clean lens with the correct solution, 3. store in the correct solution, 4. give the eyes a breather each night i.e. take them off before going to bed.

This may be of interest - was in a church in shags over the weekend and they made an announcement that Upper Hill Eye And Laser Center [UHEAL - based at UHMC] was offering eye examination and laser treatment at a local church hall today - only/specifically for diabetics with eye complications.

I thought this may either be subsidized or part of their CSR program both because the cost they were quoting was nominal [sth like 3reds for exam & a k for laser treatment per eye] and they were categorical about attending only to diabetics. Like I said, this was meant to happen today so you are late for this session but chances are there are more - you may contact [after googling] them for details....

LASIK is a permanent correction of the eye refractive errors. It corrects vision(whether short-sighted or far sighted) it is also for persons who cant read small print and are astigmatic. All you have to do is come in for an eye diagnosis(pre LASIK assessment).

The procedure goes for about 75-85k per eye.

your eyes will not get back to the same state they were in or be worse. We are using Allegreto wave machine(made in Germany) Well, as you know Germans are respected for Precision Please note that the eye like any other part of the body ages with time, so say you can read small print now, later on you may not be able to, so if you choose, then you can undergo the LASIK procedure if you dont want spectacles at this point.

LASIK is suitable for ages 18-65. Really it depends on your general well-being
