I tend to think she has been peeping Wazua....
I have been always complaining that the major problem in Ukambani is water and visionless leadership.....

Now ,Ngilu has done a wonderful job in the expansive region....running from Voi to Garisa to nairobi to Tsavo east National( a large part of the 'inhabitable' kenyan land .....I think the committee grilling her on ground that she is favoring her region does not understand the graveness of the water problem in Ukambani ......do they want the region to keep on burdening us with relief kenyans food forever?.....infact more should be done to the region including dams and WATERMELON FARMING as the region is hot and ideal for them....Ukambani can be the food basket for the country........

The boreholes that Ngilu has done have helped a few in that region. majority are poorly managed and don't benefit people who leave even metres from them due to lack of piping and too much politics from the villagers.

Ngilu brings the water near them..... its up to them to sort out local politics .... kweli kuna watu hawawezi saidika.....or have they become so used to relief food that they cant ....believe they can do something productive with the water and expansive land?

This country shouldn't thirst one minute.A Jap friend of mine once wondered how for example Kisumu borders on one of the largest fresh water body yet hotels in the town are known to go for months on dry taps.....In a country where we can pump oil products from Mombasa to Kisumu,yet pumping water to Timboroa from Kisumu is rocket science.Yes,if you get water to Timboroa from L.Victoria,then you can have it in any part of the country by gravity.....

I think if scandals were like Ngilus scandal of installing more boreholes and dams in the country's food relief headache areas of Ukambani , they would be more tolerable than say people selling forest land to fund campaigns or others pocketing taxpayers money through over priced embassies

As long as no funds were misused , through overpriced white elephant water projects , it would be in order to say Kudos to Charity Ngilu , Water is life.
More money should be allocated to the ministry to spread the projects to other problem areas such as North Eastern and Turkana regions

I have no doubt that the kambas if given water can shift the country's maize dependence from Rift valley and lower one of the main inputs into the cost of living.

We are sitting on lots of farming potential in the so called arid and semi-arid areas and until the regions are empowered, we shall continue to witness the 'round of donations for dieing kenyans'.

After roads and electricity, the government should turn to water projects with the same vigour...and pap! we shall never be the same again!

@Winston,
I concur.

@Conos,
Egypt my bad!!...Forget it!.If we wanted,we would do it.Tanzania is using the water for irrigation in Kahama and Shinyanga.They draw close to 100,000 cubic meters from Lake Victoria (A place known as Smith Sound bay),pump it uphill and distribute by gravity...That's enough water to serve close to half a million people and they have plans to double that in the next 10-15 years.....Pharaohs wata-do?
