What happens to people who never get sick like me? The last time i was in an hospital was 2003, prior to that was 1997. In the two occassion, i paid 1k only; cummulatively.

You pay for those who fall sick. That's the basic idea behind health insurance...

@mukiha just wait a minute, why should someone contribute to pay med premium to a company, for oneself and family to get quality service while at hospital and then contribute to others who fall sick by increasing the amount payable? i belive that NHIF additional premium should be in such a way yhat beyond sh 500 contribution should be optional not mandatory.

if i feel i dont get quality service at kenyatta or any other hospital,i should choose for myself if i want to be philanthropic or not.

Anything in Kenya that starts with National and end with Fund,should be feared.Currently the NHIF system is not even efficient i know of members who have had to pay hospital bills by themselves and have never recieved refunds....and inside there the corruption is high tech. ive seen it first hand...let them give us an account of how they've used their money first.

Perhaps we need to ask what the alternative to NHIF would be. Is it a fully tax-funded scheme? That appears to be the general view in this discussion: "We pay taxes, therefore we deserve free medical care"

If that is the case; would you be willing to pay additional tax in order to pay for the additional expense in the health sector? If not, which sectors would you cut funding from in order to raise the money?

Mukiha no more additional pay because number one even if you go to this hospitals and they prescribe a drug you will always be refferred to some pharmacy outside the hospital and they say we dont have those drugs.
How sure are we that now they will stock the drugs?I smell corruption and a ploy for some people to raise campaign money for 2012
