Why the surprise??....This two ought two have been privatized 15 years ago....Actually they are a very good example of "how not to run a sugar industry"

So true. But selling to farmers is pronouncing an early grave to this companies.

BBI will solve it

Then, let them be sold to real businessmen as a stake rather than farmers who will be thinking of the welfare rather than profit making.
Most of them even dont understand how the sugar industry operates (regional and internationally)

@Sober,
My understanding is that this sugar firms will be sold to strategic investors,leaving less than 50% in the hands of government,farmers,employees,the public (Listing) and other stakeholders.Interest has been expressed by MSC,Kenana sugar,ISGEC India,Illovo group amongst many others.

@X,
MSC might benefit if they get a stake of next door neighbours Nzoia.This would greatly boost their nucleus hence ensuring supply of cane since Nzoia boasts one of the largest nucleus in East Africa.....but again,the selling will be done by competitive bidding and MSC's biggest threat will obviously be the Indians (ISGEC).......One reason i would buy since if MSC get a controlling stake of Nzoia,the share would go through the roof at current pricing....It's just a butPray
