I wonder whether it would be better for KQ to outsource the in-flight services! Let the attendants be hired, trained and paid by someone else, and KQ to vet, manage and review their performance! Just a thought!

That's a brilliant idea. Why haven't they done it already? It would remove a lot of headaches for them.

BBI will solve it

Known as Wet Leases. You hire a plane + crew. KQ does use wet leases esp in the high season... I flew on an MD-11 that was wet-leased coz the KQ pilots were unfamiliar with the aircraft...

I still don't understand the clamour for more pay from these attendants. I have a few friends who work there and they live relatively well. They get as a retainer Kshs 35k plus about USD 50 for every night out. They do an average of 15 nights out (maximum of 21 nights) per month. Now that is good money for people who spend most of their time out in fully paid up hotels with free food!

Problem is they want to live like the pilots who get paid Kshs 650k and thereabouts! Anyone ever seen the staff parking lot? Plus they want to live in Kileleshwa and lavington!

I understand Emirates, KLM, and Virgin pay about USD 1,500 plus allowances. Ethiopian Airlines and SAA pay about USD 1,200. I wonder how much Uganda pays!!

Mate, some of our local ladies on KQ.....wah!!! If you're not beautiful, at least smile...just smile, you even have a badge written "we smile", yet you dont!!!

KQ flight staff can go strike, who cares, hope you all get sacked! Anyone who gets paid money and cant do their job well dont deserve that job anyways!

To me the lethargy of KQ in-flight attendants completely reflects the general attitude of Kenyans to their work (probably including the attitude of a few of us here). Kenyans love getting maximum returns out of the least of efforts! This could be OK at the NSE, but it quite the opposite when an employee is supposed to add value to a product or service.

This is the exact reason that our politicians pay themselves obscene salaries with very little output to show, why the police prefer taking 50 bob on the road instead of taking the driver to pay up a 5,000 fine which could be ploughed back to their salaries, why everyone prefers to steal instead of to work ... and KQ staff want to steal from us shareholders for mediocre service to our paying clients! Lets say the situation is all bad and we should probably hire aliens!

Comparing KQ staff to Emirates, BA, Air France or KLM is really like comparing diamond to rust!
Don't gamble; take all your savings and buy some good stock and hold it till it goes up, then sell it. If it don't go up, don't buy it...

kq has been voted the best airline in africa for 7 times in the last decade. I think these attendants u are bashing contributed much(60 %) towards these achievements. If ethiopian airlines didnt feature anywhere in the last decade, dont u think that these attendants should at least be at par with their counterparts? Just a thought!

KQ had no competition. The rest were even worse! Now that European airlines are targeting Africa + Arabian airlines [Emirates, Etihad, Air Arabia, Qatar]... KQ needs to up its game...

I gave KQ a wide-berth and have not flown in it since 2008, I prefer Virgin, KLM or Emirates, however that "We Smile" badge has cracked me up, some-one actually thought of that as a "brilliant idea" and management went ahead and adopted it..OMG!!

@VVS Wet leases maybe the way forward for KQ, I know SN Brussels (Current Brussels Airlines) had used this format with impressive results not sure if it's the same with the current Brussels set-up set-up. Infact it's the same thing that happens in Wilson airport, the ndeges are leased from SA, and you bid for the contracts in Rome (Say WHO) operating Nairobi-Daardab/Hargeisa.

Emirates cabin staff are quite something i have to say but my i tip my hat on the staff of Singapore Airlines my word!! all that and a bag of fries...(The cabin staff now dance when doing the pre-flights checks, was actually a lady Gaga song) now that's in-flight entertainment.

The greatest danger in times of turbulence is not the turbulence; it is to act with yesterday's logic.
