It is the most common sexually transmitted infection (STI). There are more than 40 HPV types that can infect the genital areas of males and females. These HPV types can also infect the mouth and throat. Most people who become infected with HPV do not even know they have it.

So go for check up. Both men and women!

just reminded me of a certain discussion we had with our Biology teacher more than 13 years ago to which she said "it is a very naughty affair how Herpes, a disease of the bucal cavity ended up in the genital areas"

Magigi there was this doctor who said that just coming into contact with the genital areas also exposes you and even if you use a CD their is still some chance of getting it.
The only way to avoid it is to go for a vaccination.

Most people with HPV do not develop symptoms or health problems from it. At times inside the vagina may experience bleeding following sexual intercourse or an abnormal vaginal discharge.
The vaccination cost around 8,000/- per dose. Children from age 9 and above are recommended to take this vaccine. Around 2,000 women due per year die to this disease.

They transmit the virus. It is important for the young boys who are sexually active to be vaccinated so that they do not transmit it.

And then there is the Cervical Cancer for the females and the Penile Cancer for men. Now these ones you can also get through sex whether you use a CD or not.

And dudes the best part is that if you have it and it has progressed too far then the only solution is Penectomy. That is the utter and total cancellation and or annihilation of the penis. Sad

You must have missed a class too many ama whatever you were taught passed through between your ears like quicksand. smile

Seriously I also thought so too until I dated a doctor once. Not a wise thing to do by any stretch of imagination now I know.

Anyways you can get more reliable info on the net than wikipedia but it is the easiest to get so here we go.
