This one has captured my curiosity and imagination. [url=http://http://www.nation.co.ke/oped/Editorial/Education%20system%20set%20for%20major%20shake-up%20/-/440804/1028006/-/83kytsz/-/index.html]. I am disturbed like other people about the excessive emphasis our society has placed on examinations.

Today, my seven year old son learns CRE, Science, SST, music, verbs and adjectives writes compositions.... and there are "revision" books for this level. I feel this is ridiculously strenuous at this level. How else can one explain this but the fact that the obsession with posting good KCPE grades?

What about the role of education as an opportunity equalizer for people from all walks of life, poor and rich? It is no longer the case, KCPE locks out pupils from poor families hence effectively making higher education a preserve of the rich in our country. The new constitution forbids the locking out of any child from accessing basic education- upto high school. Therefore it is only logical that KCPE has outlived its usefulness. Over to our education policy makers, take the bold move fast and beware of "stakeholder" (read greedy people) posing as investors in the education sector.
