I heard and it's now confirmed that Safaricom is enticing leading Kenyan artists with Homeboyz who will perform exclusively and avail music for Safaricom only for at least 1 year.

What does this mean in the latest battle front for telecoms? Has Jua Cali abadoned Orange? Does it mean it's now impossible to Daddy Owen Alan Aaron ringtones or caller ring backtones from this artists on other networks? Hmmmmmmn @KenyaLyrics, tell us more...

Oooh not impressed. I think the strategy was actually very well executed by Bharti Airtel in India who made Airtel leading brand by having A.R. Rehman develop a signature tune for Airtel in 2002 - perhaps cited as most downloaded tune in India.

Big celebrities in Bollywood and Cricket often roped in as brand ambassadors.

According to the contract you are not supposed to perform for safaricoms rivals.dont you think this will lock zain from getting kenyan celebs when launching or during promotion extravaganza.

Last week, Safaricom launched a music initiative called Kenya Live. The deal rumoured to be around 300 million shillings will involve the top Kenyan artists going on tour around the country together with Safaricom. Safaricom Live launched

Cheers @KenyaLyrics; I read the link to your site.
It should be noted that this is NOT an endorsement deal, meaning that the content produced need not promote Safaricom. It should also be noted that several other top artists who were approached turned down the deal.

Now give an anlysis on the matter. Is it good for the industry? How does it play in the mobile battle?

It's good for Safaricom because they have drawn a commitment out of these artists and it is now easier for them to organise events. On the side of the artists, they should have held out on this one. Airtel and Orange are famous for dishing out entertainment deals, so a serious bidding war could have been sparked

Nimepata! After searching for this One8 song - Hands across the World - allegedly R.Kelly did for Airtel. I see Amani benefited being one of the few artists not in this Kenya Live - Safaricom stable.

Could Airtel have found everyone else in Kenya tied in contracts? Their one representative per country idea was creative. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x1IZL7iYJ5w

I for one appreciate the decency...

Good song, world renowned artistes and all, great video but I didn't see anything even remotely relevant to Kenya in the entire thing. Compare that to the Safcom ad and tell me the difference. Night and day, isn't it?
