I will want Titus to show as a separate item the amount attributable to WC, you know--the same way JMwangi did by indicating the contribution of Safcom in Equity's 08 financials.

This we can isolate the on off event and remain with just contuing activities for the purpose of a better analysis.
Time is money, so money is time. Money saved is time gained in reverse! Money stores your life’s energy. You expend your energy, get paid money, and store that money for a future purchase made in a currency.

@horton, do you mean they had loaded the cargo then offloaded it? Or they never loaded it in the first place? If the former, the cargo manager should be fired as loading an aircraft is really basic math. He cost me the shareholder lost earnings as time was wasted and the craft delayed. Given the tight turn around times KQ has on its craft, that means a knock on effect on delayed connections for passengers resulting in needless accommodation costs.

Erm GG, it's not as "basic"as you would think. Too many variables, they offloaded 400 kgs from the B737-800. Here is a few things, B738 has an MTOW(max Takeoff weight) of 79050kgs. But is is at ISA( standard atmosphere conditions) where temperature is 15degrees C, sea level etc. The B738 has a max thrust of 26,000 pounds of thrust per engine again under STD conditions. And the temp has a 2 degrees c lapse rate per 1000ft Above mean sea level.

The variables come into play involving field elevation, temperature, runway length, obstacles etc etc

Out of Nairobi, we are at 5330ft, at 24 C on average, and ur already starting off on the back foot, coz if u apply the STD lapse rate, nbo should be at 5 degrees.

So on that day, they had planned for takeoff at an assumed temp of 24, which is more conservative than what the met guys give. The temp of 24, gave them a TO weight of 79T at the planning stages; However temp increased unexpectedly to 28C on that afternoon, quite unusual for the temp to increase so profoundly, but once in awhile, it does happen, as they say, hard to predict women and weather nbo has a condition know as "hot and high" airports so at 28degrees with such a high field elevation they had to reduce the TO weight by removing non-urgent cargo that went in the later flight. The 4degree increase led to a weight reduction of 400kgs to remain legal for TO. So it was more of a technical thing than anything else.

Just for info, to increase weights, pilots have the following at their disposal:
-lower flap setting
-use longer runway
-use higher rotation speeds, also known as ICP(improved climb performance
-use a runway that doesn't have an obstacle
-wait for the temperature drops
-switch of bleeds, to give the engines the "ooommpfhh" to carry a few 100kgs.

They do the above before they decide to reduce cargo etc.

So the thing was it was a technical restriction and if the temp didn't inadvertently increase, it would have gone.

@horton - What do people fly to MCT for except holidays? Even then... Just asking... Never been there... Was the full plane due to the special fare?

@Horton - LOL... Are you a pilot? You sound like one!

BTW, the NBO-MCT-DXB flights... are they in addition to the NBO-DXB or they replace some NBO-DXB flights?

5th Freedom from MCT to DXB?

@VVS, question number 1(post 183) :there are a bunch of kenyans that work in mct, also a lot of the Kenyan waswahilis and zanzibaris have a bunch of family there. I remember last trip we carried 25 doctors who jes decided to take a holiday together in Kenya jes coz they can...lol. Yeah the loads are pretty good It's an extra flight and no rights between mct and dxb. It wouldn't not really hold any value if KQ did have rights coz there are a bunch of flights between the two cities and have several frequencies a day....emirates, flydubai, Oman etc. ( too much serious compe for them to be selling tickets, marketing etc etc)

Question number 2(post 184): ermm...I'm gonna pledge the 5th on that one...

@ YSUN...lol thanks.

@horton, mob respect. @all, why was TN saying at the AGM that they are opening talks with Airbus Industrie while Tinga Man was being conducted around the Airbus factory? Hasn't the decision already been by someone else?

KQ is pissed at they are pushed to late 2013 for first 787 delivery (3 years behind schedule)...

KQ will not cancel the 787s just replace them for at least 2 years with Airbus planes...

It might be negotiations as well... Perhaps Boeing will offer KQ newer 767s for 2 years at a decent price/lease...

@VVS, since Boeing keeps breaking promises,im sure something new will crop up and push the delivery date past 2013. Would it be prudent for them to also place an order with Airbus as a fallback plan, get Embraer jets from Brazil or lease from European Aircraft Leasing companies ?

I don't think its a wise business move to hinge all your expansion plans on Boeing's ability to deliver.

As for cost, yes, Boeing may place a good offer on the table, but damage has already been done. The delays are costing KQ alot.

Your thoughts ?
