Anyone who cares to study IPOs would have seen it clearly, its is a repeatitive phenomeno for over 60 yrs..... after a period of IPO underpricing follows a period of IPO overpricing..following this, Safaricom IPO was overpriced and is now trading at its market value, what Scom need to do is to buy back a junk of its shares and leavarage it with debt, in short, take loans and buy back it share. Its not their best interest to dislist and they need not to!

What do you mean by "what Scom need to do is to buy back a junk (sic) of its shares"

SCOM has NEVER sold shares to the public!!

Therefore SCOM cannot buy them back!!

GoK is the one you should be talking about...it was the one that sold shares during the IPO..

If that were to happen, the balance sheet of SCOM would not change an inch!!
Nothing is real unless it can be named; nothing has value unless it can be sold; money is worthless unless you spend it.

I still insist this company has created a few celebrating and millions lamenting,to me that volatility is not health, right now the market is looking towards 5000pts but safcom is pulling us down and given its capitalization,it will always dictate the market and the market can hardly ignore the noise safcom makes...not good at all....my lords i cant be driven that way...

1) Safaricom did NOT sell shares to raise funds. See earlier comments by @mukiha
2) GoK sold its shares to the public NOT Vodafone nor Safaricom
3) Safaricom/Vodafone would be IDIOTS to buy the shares at 10/-...
4) It is highly unlikely that Safaricom will be delisted considering its 'size' & contribution to the NSE volumes

Yes... it is a 'junk' of a topic/discussion...

I must confess that yesterday when I read this thread, I wondered where the discussion was headed. And was stunned at the suggestion that safcom should buy back its shares for 10/=

@mlennyma can you please give us a very brief answer why it would be in safcom's best interest to delist or buy the shares back at more that twice their value.

Ok.. Huyu jamaa anasema nini? What do you mean pulling us down? Pulling who down? and how is it pulling us down. As far as I can tell the volumes traded are making handsome commissions for brokers and handsome capital gains for investors who actually bother to keep track of the company's performance and news.

Anyone can say "Malenge ni mboga". But you also have to qualify that opinion by stating that it so because malenge has 1,2,3 characteristics.
