@ kularaha. I think u bought a fake iphone. Like those from china. A pdf is is just a few megabits. Ur iphone if it was an original wld hav served you well. But i dnt like the black and white versions of ebook readers. How cn u enjoy comic books . The colourd versions ar few and damn expensive.

@Kularaha - Though i still don't own one yet, i have gone to the stores and played extensively with the Ipad fab gadget i must say and it will fix your problem for eternity. Am sure it will annihilate any kind of Kindle out there. I was seriously thinking bout it but now with the new iphone 4 Steve Jobs has distorted my thinking..Iphone 4 or HTC Android OS!!

Just so you know Steve Jobs has heralded the post-PC era (or end of PCs). Reminds me when mainframe era came to an end.

So a time is soon coming when in a class, or doctors doing rounds, or perhaps waiting rooms of cool offices, interview for a tech job, or in public; you spot an iTablet because it's more convenient and you can read more...

2 million on planet earth iPads since the device went on sale two months ago. In 65 days, iPad users have downloaded 5 million books -- about 2.5 books per iPad.

@KulaRaha, was it you I saw enjoying an iPad in the traffic? smile

Anyways needed to say I've seen some at PC World and now also at FoneExpress. The latter seem to have entry level ones at 70s

And @Ricdees is right, from what I saw, the free iBook application niftily handles the PDFs...

The ipad is too expensive at Kshs 100K in the Kenya market; if you already have the books in PDF why don't you just buy a small netbook for 24K or so?

there is a reason why ebook readers are preferred for reading ebooks. size (portability), screen (try reading a book in an ebook reader and then your laptop and you shall get this), handling whilst reading and battery life are just some of the reasons.

so why would someone who clearly wants an ebook reader go for a netbook?

I decided to wait.

Was in the US last month and ipad is now av slightly used at $400 off craigslist.

Lots of sellers, I think in anticipation of ipad2, which will have facetime and retina display.

I am patient. After seeing that ipad, all those ebook readers pale in comparison....

A lot comes to those who wait; but how long for the iPad2?

Perhaps the answer is the Amazon's Kindle (3G+wifi) which costs at least one-quarter to one-fifth of the iPad. They have just released a new version.

Good article by Sunny Bindra today on how Amazon have refused to chase the iPad and preferred to stick to their light-weight, black and white screen, long battery life...

I've watched AMZN for many years, as a test case on whether a company that first learnt NOT to make money can eventually turn around and learn the art. Jeff Bezos proved me wrong 8 years from inception......
with current net profit margin of only 3.18% and share price having risen 5x since then

If you are STRICTLY going for a e-reader; then the Kindle is better than Ipad for ereading. If you want a host of other things; then the Ipad is better. I hear Barnes and Nobles 'Nook' is even better than the Kindle.

But if cost is a major consideration and you just want a device to read PDFs that you already have, go for a netbook. We read PDFs on computer all the time at work, at home....

That said ereaders are overated

Kindle is good, but if you want a vanilla reader so is Nook. However, I like photography, and the ebooks have such nice pics to see and kindle just cant cope with that.

But I tell you, when you handle both products at a store, that ipad is the mother of all!!!!! So sexy and curvy and feels so right!!

Ipad2 expected in January, thats only 4 months away. In the meantime, I will watch more movies than read!

As for Amazon, what a company!! I bought all my gadgets there, best prices and amazing delivery.
