They are praying for it to hit so:
1.fight to whose ministry it belongs to so they can eat the cash.see two below.
2.beg for money from the donors crying how poor we are.

3. gain political mileage by sending drugs to affected areas after few reported deaths

ADVICE TO SK FAMILY CONCERNING SWINE FLU

Human cases of swine influenza A (H1N1) virus infection have been identified in Mexico,in the United States and New Zealand and seems to be spreading. Swine influenza (swine flu) is a respiratory disease of pigs caused by type A influenza that regularly cause outbreaks of influenza among pigs. This outbreak has spread to humans and now there is human to human transmission Investigations are ongoing to determine the source of the infection and whether additional people have been infected with swine influenza viruses. The situation is rapidly evolving.

It is important to note that ordinary seasonal flu, which has symptoms similar to swine flu,is still active in Kenya. Precautionary measures for both seasonal flu and swine flu include:
? Washing your hands often with soap and warm water. Alcohol-based hand cleansers are also effective.
? Avoiding people who are ill with a febrile illness
? Staying home from work or school if you are sick with a temperature over 38 degrees Centigrade
? Using tissue when you cough, sneeze or spit, and dispose of the tissue in a covered trash bin.
? Keeping hands away from your face. Avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth.
? Cleaning shared space more often such as phone receivers, keyboards, steering wheels and office equipment. Cleaning with spirit is effective
? Refraining from sharing unwashed personal items such as forks, spoons, toothbrushes and towels.

Swine influenza frequently asked questions

What is swine influenza?
Swine influenza,or “swine flu”,is a highly contagious acute respiratory disease of pigs, caused by one
of several swine influenza A viruses. Morbidity tends to be high and mortality low (1-4%). The virus
is spread among pigs by aerosols, direct and indirect contact, and asymptomatic carrier
pigs. Outbreaks in pigs occur year round, with an increased incidence in the fall and winter in
temperate zones. Many countries routinely vaccinate swine populations against swine influenza.
Swine influenza viruses are most commonly of the H1N1 subtype, but other subtypes are also
circulating in pigs (e.g.,H1N2,H3N1,H3N2). Pigs can also be infected with avian influenza viruses
and human seasonal influenza viruses as well as swine influenza viruses. The H3N2 swine virus was
thought to have been originally introduced into pigs by humans. Sometimes pigs can be infected with
more than one virus type at a time, which can allow the genes from these viruses to mix. This can
result in an influenza virus containing genes from a number of sources, called a 'reassortant' virus.
Although swine influenza viruses are normally species specific and only infect pigs, they do
sometimes cross the species barrier to cause disease in humans.
What are the implications for human health?
Outbreaks and sporadic human infection with swine influenza have been occasionally reported.
Generally clinical symptoms are similar to seasonal influenza but reported clinical presentation ranges
broadly from asymptomatic infection to severe pneumonia resulting in death.
Since typical clinical presentation of swine influenza infection in humans resembles seasonal
influenza and other acute upper respiratory tract infections, most of the cases have been detected by
chance through seasonal influenza surveillance. Mild or asymptomatic cases may have escaped from
recognition; therefore the true extent of this disease among humans is unknown.
Where have human cases occurred?
Since the implementation of IHR(2005)1 in 2007,WHO has been notified of swine influenza cases
from the United States and Spain.
How do people become infected?
People usually get swine influenza from infected pigs, however, some human cases lack contact

@Gen kago

This flu infected 33.33% of the world population in1918-19 and killed 10% of the world population same time.

Actually,a child dies of malaria every 30 seconds in africa and asia. It will unfortunately not get even half the coverage that the Swine flu has got in a single day.

Talk of inequality.

Funny that no western country has issued a travel alert to mexico.

@Fundah,I watched something to the effect that this is a new strain of flu (a mixture of swine, chicken and human flu),CDC is still developing a vaccine, its treatable and will go away,if you get diagnosed early and placed on medical care.

In 1918,I don't think they even new what spread flu.

Good point @Ob1....every time a minister says the phrase 'swine flu' another child dies of malaria! This thing is just another media hype just like bird flu!

S what if 200 people have died so far? The disease has no cure and it kills quickly, therefore it will extinguish itself!

Malaria, however,is 'PREDICTABLE,PREVENTABLE AND TREATABLE' -to quote Dr. Davy Koech (formerly of KEMRI). It should not be killing anyone.

There was an interesting feature on Al Jazera yesterday about how some Chinese professor has eradicated Malaria from the island of Comoros. But the WHO has refused to certify his method because it has not been published in a 'recognised, refereed scientific journal'
Nothing is real unless it can be named; nothing has value unless it can be sold; money is worthless unless you spend it.

Unfortunately,it has past the stage of containment, meaning we just have to prepare to manage the cases as they come. Waiting for it at the airport is useless. It will come into the country,as its mode of spread is too efficient. Im expecting it in Africa/Kenya before the week's end. Good thing though is the mortality rate is rather low (except for Mexico for so-far unknown reasons). We hope it keeps that way.

as many other have mentioned we have many things to worry about than the swine flu.

Anybody remember Ebola - the world doesn't care because the loss is negligible.

Mexico - big partner for USA,,,,big stuff

I guess the media and internet is a demi-god

Why care of swine flu while I'm struggling with basic treatable malaria,TB,pneumonia, aids with me .... oh oh I forgot I did not eat supper (hunger) and ..... I have no job even after toiling in higher education corridors....

To us with access to newspapers, media and internet we will be worried but to the locals ... homa ya nguruwe call a VET

A SWINE flu red alert was issued across the planet last night — as the boss of the World Health Organisation warned chillingly: “The whole of humanity is under threat in a pandemic.” She further added,“The biggest question right now is this: How severe will the pandemic be?”
The global peril from the Mexican virus was raised from “phase 4” to “phase 5” — one short of the most dreaded 'Phase 6'. A “phase 6” would be on the scale of the 1968 flu pandemic which killed up to four million worldwide. She ended on a positive note saying the world is better prepared for an influenza pandemic than at any time in history... should we be scared?
