From the lunchtime interview in ktn, zain C.E.O mentioned that the move is more of a long-term and they will be capitalising on the economies of scale from bharti.Meanwhile,as Safcom tries to figure whats next let me switch to zain and enjoy the benefits. It might just be sustaining.

My take is that they are trying to ensnare many customers to reach a critical mass where they can make money on zain-zain calls. If safcom responds by cutting saf-saf calls zain will be kwisha, just like it always has been. I like you thinking Sparkly... Hope Safcom strategy are reading this.. If Safcom cuts all Saf-Saf call charges to, let say, 1 bob a minute... Zain kwisha.. As usual Safcom will not react immediately. They will wait for see how Kenyans react. This however, is the biggest test they have ever faced since tariff wars started sometime back.

I think once you factor in costs, its not sustainable. If i was Safcom, I'd just chill for a couple of weeks and see if Zain's network can sustain the initial jubilation The Governor of Nyeri - 2017

Ni kubaya.....!!.Some months ago, i bought Yu lines for the entire family. The lady used it a couple days and went back to her old Safcom ways. She's been a die hard safcom customer but she finally threw in the towel.Moments ago,she proudly called from her new Zain line....i see groom for safcom and who cares whether Zain makes money not?.Lemme enjoy it as long as it lasts..... BTW,if number portability is not around the corner,Zain should consider an "i moved" service just like YU and aggressively market it"....or free SmSes to Safcom numbers just to inform your friends you moved... . Nothing great was ever achieved without enthusiasm.

@Wamutonyi, You are smiling at the idea....heh!.Bare knuckles.Sell it and ZAP me mbili baridi...lol. ACT.. Funny.Someone will stick to sufcom simply coz he/she is a shareholder?.....Idiot!!....Saving per minute on Safcom to Safcom viz Zain to Safcom is the price of one Safcom share.Save the money now and buy more shares later. Nothing great was ever achieved without enthusiasm.

Its in everyone's interest that zain stays a float. Having said that, revenue streams from voice calls in the telecommunication industry is so poor.ARPU'S going down everyday. This war should never, ever be about tariffs. These one bob shenanigans you see around cannot sustain a business. The one bob tariff doesnt even make business sense.Safcon shouldnt respond by dropping tariffs. If i were safcom i would stay put with my 'business sense 'tariffs. You sure cant sustain a business on a bob.The war should be about innovative products and VAS.When orange in its warped logic dropped tariffs to a bob, what can they show for it? where are the masses? Telcos that stay innovative will retain their numbers with very minimal churn. But before Zain can reduce tariffs to a bob, can't they distribute what they have? How easy is it to access any zain product? I realised you can go 5 shops without getting zain airtime, same shops are stuffed with all manner of safcom products. Strive not to be a success, but rather to be of value. –Albert Einstein.

I think each provider wants subscribers first by giving them a crazy offer.Once they are in that network they can then work on distributorship and new products. Some of these companies have huge huge budgets that can sustain losses for even 2yrs.I think its an all out war now.......and WE are winning! Formally employed people often live their employers' dream & forget about their own.

@Bird-man, Zain's achilles has been distributorship as Kivairu so rightly put it.I read somewhere that they have a war chest to double the number of distributors and take coverage to 90%.....meanwhile vita vya panzi...?? Nothing great was ever achieved without enthusiasm.

kivairu wrote:Its in everyone's interest that zain stays a float. Well said! At the moment only zain can give scom a run for their money. I don't even want to imagine how much scom would charge us if there was no serious competitor especially now that we know just how important communication is to Kenyans. BBI will solve it :)

They are prepared to operate at a loss for as long as it takes until they get the huge volumes of people.... There is no way kenyans will continue pay 300% more than safcon... And I'm selling my shares tomoro.. Mark 12:29 Deuteronomy 4:16
